TROOP 6 BERKELEY

Are you interested in an exciting program for kids 11 to 18 years old? Check out Troop Six, one of the oldest Boy Scout Troops in Berkeley. St. John’s Church has sponsored the troop since its founding in 1929.

Our troop features a regular outdoor program including hikes, service projects, and a variety of weekend camps and backpacking trips throughout the year. We also conduct our own two-week summer camp at Utica Reservoir in the Sierras. This “wilderness” camp is run by the older scouts and the troop staff with the help of the parents. Every six years our troop plans a major trip in lieu of summer camp. In 2014 the troop went to Alaska, spending two weeks whitewater rafting/canoeing, backpacking, and going by train through Denali Park. Had it not been for Covid-19, 2020 would have taken us to climb Mt. Rainier, kayak through the San Juan Islands and explore Olympic National Park. Past years have included trips to Hawaii, Grand Tetons, and the Pacific Northwest.

Our scouts learn about being self-reliant, working together, making friends, and having fun. Troop 6 welcomes all kids 11-18 years old. We choose adult leaders based only on their leadership qualities, emphasizing the safety, rights and dignity of all.
